The aim of At The Water Cooler (ATWC) is to establish its presence as a valid marketing resource and promotional venue for ethnic writers.

What does that mean exactly?

Upon registration, you will be allowed to submit your articles, essays, short stories etc... for consideration for placement on this community and/or a part of our eNewsletter.

Once we've unpacked and made ourselves comfortable in this extension to our home we'll post some submission guidelines and promotion guidelines.

Our Weblink database is open for you to submit your link and/or recommend links of sites that would be considered valuable to the writing community. Until categories are set up, please also suggest a category when you suggest a link for addition.

Mind Management

Hi Folks,

Sorry about my delays. I’ve been a bit distracted lately caught up in an extended bout of mania. My fingers in too many pies and my attention span that of a gnat. I’m not the world’s most organized person to begin with and I know that many have already written succinct and effective articles about time management and countering writer’s block.

However, I come with a different curve to the topic. What I’d like to open to door to discuss today is mind management. I know right about now someone is probably going… ???

Your love is a deep well
May I drink from your depths?
cherishing every precious drop
this hallowed bank of golden spirit
your essence, streamed and plentiful

Your love is a meadow
May I sit on your grassy mounds?
peaceful and content
as your breathe blows trees
swirling around me
sprinkling orange and red leaves
all over, uncovered, free

Flash Memoir: Welcome to New York!

The following is an excerpt from a longer piece about my first impressions of New York, fresh after graduation from High School:

June 15, 1983

The Big Apple (with the big bucks! No piddling Maryland teacher's salary for me! With my shorthand/transcription skills, my typing speed and my Spanish I can command a salary equivalent to dear old Dad’s). Off with the old, on to new things, as the valedictorian said at graduation: “Our lives have just begun!”

Hello roomie! What? Still a 10pm curfew! I'm seventeen and a high school graduate! Stop playing! I'm calling mom!

Five minutes later, “What? Do what my father says?" This stinks! (Of course these arguments are all carried out in my head ... ‘cause a sistah likes having teeth, thank you very much).
